Mock Trials

Often, plaintiffs in personal injury cases or defendants in criminal trials are at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to resources. Insurance companies can hire big law firms. A major part of this preparation is having the ability to conduct what are called "mock trials."

Mock trials are practice trials. Basically, we go through a practice trial like a football team practices it's plays. This may not sound novel, but very few law firms have the resources to conduct these mock trials. At Yarian & Patatanyan, we believe it is an important part of our preparation.

We have built mock trial facilities in our offices that are set up just like a courtroom. We hire people who have been on the jury rolls of the counties in which the trial we are preparing for will occur. We go through our entire case, and have attorneys from the office go through the other side's case as well. When the cases are complete, we have the mock jury deliberate in a private room, where we can watch the deliberations via closed-circuit television. These mock trials allow us to hone our presentation skills. More importantly, however, we get to listen to the mock jury's reactions to the facts and presentation. We can discover the hidden weaknesses and strengths of both our case and the other side's. The tool has proven invaluable, and we are incredibly proud of how we have utilized it.
